Food manufacturers use Food Safety Legends to run engaging GMP and food safety refresher sessions on the factory floor. The board game is built around real production-facility hazards, works with mixed teams from shopfloor to senior management, and gives QA managers a visible food safety culture activity to show auditors.

The training problem in a food factory

  • Refresher fatigue: the same slideshow every year teaches compliance, not behaviour.
  • Shift patterns: getting everyone into a classroom means multiple sessions and lost production time.
  • Mixed literacy and languages: a scenario discussed in a group lands better than a written test.
  • Culture evidence: GFSI-benchmarked standards such as FSSC 22000 and BRCGS expect sites to show they are actively building food safety culture, not just training records.

How manufacturers use the game

GMP refresher rounds

Monthly or quarterly 45-minute sessions per shift, focused on the Pitfall cards that match your site's risks.

Department challenges

Production vs packing vs cleaning vs dispatch. Builds cross-department conversation and accountability.

Pre-audit knowledge checks

Use the quiz rounds to see where knowledge is weak before an internal or third-party audit. See informal food safety assessments.

Food Safety & Quality Month

Run a site-wide tournament. Mondelēz Port Elizabeth used it this way with leaders, shopfloor and contractors playing together.

How it supports food safety culture

A food safety culture shows in what people do when nobody is checking. The game helps because it gets every level talking about hazards in the same room, makes it normal for junior staff to speak up, and turns abstract rules into decisions people have practised.

Keep a simple record of each session (date, attendees, topics covered, gaps you noticed). Together with your formal training records, that becomes practical evidence of ongoing culture activity. Read more on building a food safety culture.

Pricing for sites and groups

R1 800 per game, or R1 500 each for 3 or more. Multi-site manufacturers usually order one game per site or per shift. Branded editions are available on request. See bulk and branded orders.

“Mondelēz Port Elizabeth purchased Food Safety Legends in June, in celebration of Food Safety and Quality Month. Senior leaders, middle management, shopfloor teams and contractors joined to play. It was delightful to see how the team embraced the game. Everyone was engaged and, the best part, they were learning with fun. We now use the game as an ice breaker for any team session on site where quality and food safety is discussed.”

Common questions

Does the game replace our accredited food safety training?

No. It reinforces accredited and HACCP/GMP training between courses. It is not accredited and does not issue certificates.

Can we use it for FSSC 22000 or BRCGS food safety culture requirements?

It can form part of your culture plan as an engagement activity. Record sessions, attendance and the gaps you identify so you can show the activity and its follow-up to auditors.

Can senior management and shopfloor staff play together?

Yes, and it works best that way. Mixing levels in one game flattens the hierarchy and encourages honest discussion.

Can the game be customised with our branding?

Yes. Customisation and corporate branding are available on request. Contact us for a quote.
